Position: Cost and Warranty Reduction Powertrain Engineer Location: Ann Arbor MIDuration: FultimeDescription, Skills/Duties & Responsibilities: Iterative design of in-production engine systems and components for the purposes of cost reduction (VA) and warranty reduction. Prototyping, evaluation, design release and localization of these components Warranty analysis of in-production engine systems and components Using your knowledge of the Client Design Process and Standards, outputting typical design team deliverables such as 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports and instruction sheets. Attending routine Design Reviews and reporting the key metrics of your design. Developing counter-measures to achieve design targets such as cost reduction, warranty reduction, mass and fatigue strength based on evaluation and quotation results. Support assembly plant QE with warranty analysis and root cause analysis Building relationships with key stakeholders (such as drivetrain and vehicle design, TMC engine design, purchasing, supplier development and assembly plants) Process improvements, advancing EDE’s design process capability to improve quality and on-time delivery of design deliverables. Benchmarking similar designs to ensure our competitivenessRequired Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science (or above) with a Mech Eng major. 3+ years in automotive design/development. Strong Powertrain Cost and Warranty /Reduction Experience. Demonstrated experience in engine component and system cost reduction (VA/VE) and warranty reduction. Experience with Gasoline Internal Combustion Engines a strong plus. Demonstrable CAD skills and a strong understanding of GD&T. Proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint. Strong knowledge of conventional powertrains. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Team-oriented thinking and a “can-do” attitude. Experience in detail design of ICE peripheral services such as lubrication system, belt system and timing chain cover, fuel system, cooling system, intake and exhaust system, Experience with CREO, Windchill, and typical powertrain CAE design software (FEA, CFD, GT Power or similar). Hands-on experience with engine/powertrain assembly. Expertise in GD&T and typical ICE manufacturing methods. A working knowledge of DRBFM. A working knowledge of Quality Management and Supply Chain Management principles. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
